As Andrew is building an online shop to sell his work you´ll soon be able to get a copy by your own – I´ll keep you updated and post a picture as soon as I have received a copy of it by my own.
Stay updated!

By 24th of March 2009 I wrote a mail to Patricio, the chilean painter who lives in Stantiago de Chile, that I had seen a painting in an exhibition that won´t go out of my mind, due to its bright colors and it´s tremendous movement and flow.

This painting had shown Istanbul from it´s new face which has nothing to do with what most people think of when you ask them about Istanbul – Sultanahmet, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Bosphorus bridge and Topkapi Palace. It had shown Istanbul from its modern side with the great bank buildings – Ak bank and Is bank as well as the new shopping mall Kanyon. Between these buildings you could see a great stream of cars running like a river through the city. Trying to discribe Patricio of what this scenery was looking like I told him – try to imagine you are standing at a tall building at night, the city is lying beneth your feet and you can see millions of lights – one part is static – these belong to the illuminated buildings and one part is moving with great velocity – these are the cars, busses, metros and motorcycles that are running like blood through this organism which is called city.

I guess paired with the pictures I had sent him, Patricio had understood of what I meant.
So after half a year later, Patrico had finished his work and painted in oil on linen of what I had told him that I had seen in that exhibition – he had sent it to germany enrolled in a tube. By christmas 2009 for a christmas visit to germany together with my wife I could take a first look at the result. When first unrolling the painting I was simply blown away by its brightness, strenghts and movement. It was simply amazing and exactly of how I had remembered it from the exhibition.

What really got me crazy was, that the customs police had opened the painting, checked it and rolled it back in such a bad way that it had many waves and wan´t straight at all any more. So first thing that had to be done was ironing the whole painting, which worked out luckily in a great way and got the painting back into shape. So once the painting was o.k. again me and my wife went back to Istanbul bringing the painting back to where it was originally coming from but had actually never been to.

I wanted it to be framed and went to several framing shops but none of them had satisfied me with their ideas for a suitable frame nor with a good offer. So unfortunately the painting remained enrolled until January 2010, when I had to move back to germany. It went in a container from Istanbul to Hamburg and waited until August 2010 when it arrived finally in our new home in Hamburg, Winterhude. Again me and my wife were looking for a proper frame to finally give it the space it deserves, but we still couldn´t find someone who would handle it with the care and attention it deserves.
So finally by January 2011 my wife and me decided to do a frame by ourselves so that this gem can enlighten our home and remind us of Istanbul – our beloved city – the river of lights.

Finally by 01.01.2011 westausgang.de – my virtual home in the www has been finalized! I am very happy with it´s new outlook and after almost a decade of using flash-technologie in order to present my work to the world I turned back to apply standards to my website and am now completely w3c conform. The backbone of this website is wordpress – a CMS I have used for several other projects – now it´s the engine for westausgang.de
As not only the outlook of westausgang has changed – I will now focus on the topics online photography and everything that is connected with this topic – so stay tuned, as this place will become more lively than ever!

Introduction:

The Tiltviewer from Artright is an amazing gallery that shows your photos in a thumbnail viewed rectangular shaped gallery which can be tilted to all sides by interacting with the mouse movement. The photos appear as 3D images that can be zoomed and flipped for additional information. Easy to implement and even supports displaying your photos from an flickr account. And the best – it´s FREE. In combination with the Admin tool to control features like e.g. visual appearance, photo upload and image management it is a great tool in order to create an eye-catching image viewer.
See here my example.

Screencast

Requirements

In order to install an customize TiltViewer you will need some software in order to upload (can be done via an FTP program or via your web host) and customize the software (a text editing program will fine).
Below you can find the list of applications that I use:

Transmit is a software in order to upload files to your server. Normally even your service provider provides a web application for uploading files, or you use another application – various options are possible.

Via Dreamweaver I edit the html file in order to customize the photogallery according to my taste – but any program with text editing feature will be fine in order to adjust the settings.

Installation

Download TiltViewer – you can do so under the following LINK.

Upload TiltViewer to your server – in my example Transmit is used to move the files to a server.

Customizing

Open the index.html file located in the downloaded TiltViewer folder with a text editor – in my example Dreamweaver is used to edit the index.html

Change the settings as follows – for more information regarding adjusting TiltViewer you can refer to the following LINK which features all possible settings of the photogallery – this example here shows of how to use your flickr photos as a resource for Tiltviewer:

Set the ‘UseFlickr’ option to ‘true’: fo.addVariable(“useFlickr”, “true”);

Change the Flickr user id under the setting ‘user_id’ option. In order to find your Flickr user id, just browse to your own photostream (see here my example) and copy and paste the alphanumberic user id into the following line: fo.addVariable(“user_id”, “24893047@N07″);
In order to show only specific photos the best way is to use tags – if you have defined a special tag name for your photos (can be done via the flickr tool) TiltViewer will only show photos of with the specified tag. Change the tag in the ‘tags’option to your own taste. See my example for showing all photos with the tag names “architecture”:
fo.addVariable(“tags”, “architecture”);

Upload the index.html to the folder where all tiltviewer files are located and overwrite the existing file (it is useful to keep a backup copy of the file in case you do something wrong when editing the file – so you can always reset the gallery easily

Browse to your tiltviewer url and enjoy your photos via the TiltViewer.
